Every DIY’er will some day encounter a broken or damaged bolt. It happened to me today while I was doing front rotors/brake pads on my Subaru–A bolt on the caliper bracket was fused and broke off trying to loosen it. Luckily, I had bought an Irwin bolt-out set (Bolt-Grip) around Xmas (thanks goes to my neighbors!) for just such an occasion. As is my routine, I had sprayed all bolts with penetrating lube for about an hour before working on them. After exerting a lot of force on it (using both breaker bar and then impact wrench), the head sheared off leaving only the shaft. Doh! Bottom line: as can be seen in the video, the Irwin Bolt-Grip set worked beautifully!!! Certainly, more penetrating lube and application of heat helped as well, but I’m telling you, this bolt was fused on tight! Special thanks: Irwin – great set and made in the USA! www.irwin.com Kroil – the kingpin of penetrating oils www.kanolabs.com
